Does Not Wearing Glasses Make Your Eyes Worse Gradually?

Does not wearing glasses make your eyes worse? If you wear glasses (or are supposed to), you’ve probably wondered this very thing from time to time. Maybe you’ve thought that not wearing your glasses will even improve your eyesight by making your eyes adjust and improve over time. Let’s find out if there is any truth to either of these ideas.

Why You Should Always Wear Your Prescription Glasses

If you require prescription glasses to see clearly, you should think of putting on your “specs” as part of your morning routine. If possible, they should always be worn, and maybe not for the reasons you think. Not wearing your prescription glasses won’t actually cause harm to your eyes, but they will give you other kinds of unpleasant symptoms. These can include blurry vision, headaches, and tired, strained eyes.

Children requiring prescription lenses and don’t wear them can cause their eyes to develop improperly. Eyes develop properly when a clear image is delivered to the retina through corrective lenses. However, when clear vision isn’t available, the eyes can’t develop the way they should. This can cause lazy eyes, crossed eyes, and more.

What Happens If You Don’t Wear Your Glasses?

If you need corrective glasses to help with a vision problem, the improvement that you have seen thus far will come to a halt and begin to get worse, negating any progression that has previously been made.

Also, the common headaches and eye strain mentioned above will occur as your eyes work harder to see objects in focus. Kids who don’t wear their glasses have been shown to fall behind in their reading. Completing homework causes them physical pain, and so they stop doing it.

Other symptoms from not wearing your glasses may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Failure to focus correctly
  • Double vision
  • Increased tripping and falling hazards
  • Weakening eye muscles

How Wearing Glasses Can Actually Help Your Eyesight

Of course, the first benefit of wearing your glasses will be a clear vision. Not too shabby, right?

In addition to clear vision, some adults and children have glasses to help correct some eye issues like lazy eyes, crossed eyes, or other serious problems. To continue to improve these conditions, wearing your glasses is a must so that your condition can continue to progress.

Since i was in Grade school starting at 5th grade i wore eye glasses up until i was 30 years old.
Then by accident and at a time in my life i was not able to continue wearing them , due to affordability . I disscoverd the once weakness i had in seeing far away had gone? Oddly enough
and later an Eye doctor told me ,that my sight had improved just short of 20/20 vission ! Now in my later years (Im now 61) they are still strong but i am begining to
    Wear Reading Glasses !
So why for some 20+ years that i wore them ! Did my Eye sight not get worse when i stopped ?
